Why the Navy Chose Hana, Again

The Hana Group has once again been selected by the U.S. Navy to provide security services across the Mid-Atlantic region. This marks over a decade of trusted partnership.

The re-award of this multi-site contract spans key Navy installations in Boston, Virginia, Philadelphia, and New Jersey, including historic and high-profile sites like the USS Constitution in Boston and the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, one of the Navy’s most critical industrial facilities.

This win is a significant achievement, especially given the highly competitive bidding process that lasted nearly a year. Hana successfully prevailed against formidable competitors.

“For ten years, we’ve supported the Navy Mid-Atlantic,” said Rob Middaugh, President of Hana Security Services. “That kind of long-term relationship doesn’t happen by accident. It happens because we do what we say we’re going to do—day in and day out, in good times and in crisis.”

Indeed, Hana’s performance during challenging periods such as the COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated its unwavering reliability. The Navy witnessed firsthand how the company kept operations running across multiple regions without compromising on safety, standards, or service quality.

What sets Hana apart is not just its experience. It’s the depth of its training infrastructure. The Navy requires officers to be trained by instructors holding specific and hard-to-acquire certifications. Hana has spent the last decade building its own bench of certified instructors.

“Our ability to consistently train and maintain qualifications for over 150 officers across multiple sites is rare,” said Middaugh. “That training capability, built from the ground up, is a major reason we were selected again.”

While incumbency brings logistical and cost advantages—such as existing equipment, staffing, and training infrastructure—Middaugh emphasizes that value and quality were the deciding factors.

“Our reputation, performance history, and ability to deliver unmatched value made the decision easier for the Navy,” he said. “They know us. They’ve seen how we operate. In a world where continuity reduces risk, we were the smart bet.”

Winning the contract was the result of a truly collaborative team effort across Hana’s leadership, operations, business development, and compliance teams. The year-long process included site visits to six Navy locations, detailed technical proposals, and a rigorous past-performance review.

As Hana moves into the next phase of its partnership with the Navy, the company remains focused on delivering professional, dependable security services that reflect its values.

“This is about protecting people, critical sites, and the mission at hand,” said Middaugh. “We’re proud of the trust the Navy continues to place in us, and we’re ready to serve.”
